Loyola Memorial... Park (?)

Look at the first 6 shots... parang ang ganda, ano? That's because those are the areas which can be seen from afar by visitors to this so-called park. Up close, that's another story. Wait till you get to the interior parts. On any given day, you will see trash all around, unkempt lawns, missing drainage covers, concrete walls in disrepair, etc.

I have seen this place deteriorate with each passing year since the 1970s. If lot owners didn't bring in other people to maintain their own areas surrounding the graves, it would probably look worse. What happened to the promise that Loyola would not just be a place to bury your dead but would be a beautiful place where you could commune with nature? Maybe the owners and management promptly forgot while laughing their way to the bank?

  1. Sad... and to think that Loyola is not a La Loma!

  2. Oo nga, Dong. Kung di ako nagkakamali, sila ang nagsimula ng konseptong "eternal care". Ngayon parang eternal I don't care na sila!

  3. Och, well said and I agree. I visit our dead (2 lots) almost monthly. The ones who actually clean up are paid hands. I pay monthly dues to maintain the grass. Almost every year, they will offer to "change" the grass of course for a fee. New dead are buried and suddenly your find tire marks on your kept lawn... "ay ma'am nasagasaan po yan nung mga taga-Loyola..." OK. And that also explains the chip on the marble headstone (which you also paid for on your own, no thanks to Loyola). Why do I feel that this story has a bitter-sweet refrain in almost everything in the lives of Filipinos. Come-on we could be better than this. Pinoys, wake-up!

  4. When I complained to some Loyola people working on the grounds, they said "Sumulat po kayo sa office ng Loyola." Maybe we should! Or should we just hope someone will alert their management about this blog entry? HOY LOYOLA, NAKIKINIG BA KAYO?!!!
