Paris 3: Montmartre and the Sacre Coeur Basilica

The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris, commonly known as Sacré-Cœur Basilica (French: Basilique du Sacré-Cœur, pronounced [sakʁe kœʁ]), is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in Paris, France. A popular landmark, the basilica is located at the summit of the butte Montmartre, the highest point in the city. Sacré-Cœur is a double monument, political and cultural, both a national penance for the supposed excesses of the Second Empire and socialist Paris Commune of 1871 crowning its most rebellious neighborhood, and an embodiment of conservative moral order, publicly dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which was an increasingly popular vision of a loving and sympathetic Christ.

The Sacré-Cœur Basilica was designed by Paul Abadie. Construction began in 1875 and was finished in 1914. It was consecrated after the end of World War I in 1919.

Where in the world is Liechstenstein?

The Principality of Liechtenstein (Listeni/ˈlɪktənstaɪn/ lik-tən-styn) is a doubly landlocked alpine country in Central Europe, bordered by Switzerland to the west and south and by Austria to the east. Its area is just over 160 square kilometres (62 sq mi), and it has an estimated population of 35,000. Its capital is Vaduz. Liechtenstein has the second highest gross domestic product per person in the world and has the world's lowest external debt.

Liechtenstein is the smallest yet the richest (by measure of GDP per capita) German-speaking country in the world and the only country to lie entirely within the Alps. It is the only predominantly German-speaking country not to share a common border with Germany and the only predominantly German-speaking nation to have a monarch. It is known as a principality as it is a constitutional monarchy headed by a prince. The country has a strong financial sector located in the capital, Vaduz, and has been identified as a tax haven.

Singapore Art Museum

Walked about 2 hours all over trying to find this place. It was sure worth the sore feet, missed lunch, and unexpected tan. It's a small museum but with a good collection of local and regional artists. It's also very well-maintained.

Alambre, hiyas, at tula

Alin kaya ang mas matimbang sa akin?
Gigil?
Pagpipigil sa panggigigil?
O hindi pag-amin sa panggigigil?
Hmmm...

Hinanda para sa isang art show pero naging daan para maibsan ang pangangailangang lumikha at lagyan ng kuwento ang mga nilikhang ito. (I-click ang mga larawan upang mabasa ang mga tula.)

Paper, Too

The Painting & The Poem

ON SEEING HIM AGAIN

My pain dwells behind
A screen of lace
Wrought by fingers
In restless wait.

Gossamer strands of sighs
Intertwining, embracing
Coarse twines of guilt
Unraveling in my mind.

As if through a tulled veil
Made taut by tears
Forbidden to fall
This heart looks from afar.

To behold, to caress
Yet never touch

To memorize your every expression

Despite prying eyes
That keep watch.

My essence wears a silken sheath
Unseen by those who know not
But the light that is you
Lays bare the weakest in me.

My soul awakens only in my dreams
Where reality is surrendered
And the scent of your being
Vividly remembered.

My sanity is in tattered disguise
Pleading to break free
Should I don mourning black
To clothe the rest of me?

The painting, "The Black Bride", is by Welbart, one of my Multiply Contacts. I grabbed this image from "In His Place..." album in his site. I've yet to meet him or see his works except through the web. But from what you'll see in http://welbartstudio.multiply.com you will surely agree with me that he is a noteworthy & fantastic artist.

The poem is mine, from so long ago, & has been published in virtualwriter.net. The words and the painting just seemed to belong together.

The Ego, ignored

I read an entry in one blog which said that the Ego holds one back from expressing his creativity. That is probably true for me. I want to create art but I am always so afraid it will not pass the aesthetic standards of people . Well, most especially because I happen to have a sibling who is an artist! Like most things that I do and say, I am afraid I will be judged negatively. So, I always keep to the safe side of the road. Seldom venturing into the exciting but dangerous beyond-the-limit land. The ego, personified!

But I have come to a point in my life that reacquainting myself with my Id seems like a good idea. No longer afraid of being ridiculed or criticized. No longer hostage to my high Agreeableness score in the Big 5 (After all, I also have a high Openness score!). No longer caring if my work pales in comparison to L's.

And so the attempt to capture the flowers in Sonya's garden. And so the (so unlike me) vibrant colors. And so I unveil my art!

"The Ego produces Resistance and attacks the awakening artist." (Steven Pressfield The War of Art)
